About Us

Established in 1985, Westside Competitions commenced as Norwest Competitions.

It began as  a place to give an opportunity for lower graded clubs/colleges a competition toward the end of the calisthenic year and invited clubs not able to attend RSS.

Throughout the years, calisthenics has evolved rapidly, Westside along with it.

The competition was started by Sue Smith (Formerly Westaire Calisthenics College) and her father, the late Jim Chalmers. The committee comprising of coaches and parents alike, as it still does to this day.

The Jim Chalmers shield is given to the Club/College with the highest overall aggregate points in all sections they have entered in our competition. The Club/College has kept the shield for the 12 months until the following year’s competition begins.

With the 2022 competition entry changes implemented, as clubs aren’t able to choose which competitions they’ve entered, the current committee have decided to retire this commemorative trophy until such time clubs are able to choose which competition they enter.

Other commemorative trophies in honour of past committee members we currently provide:

  • The late June Campbell and Meryl Kemp trophies, presented annually to overall highest aggregate Senior and Intermediate physical core items.
